Read It or Weep | Book Trilogies
I’ve read a lot of books, which means I’ve read lots of series and trilogies. From fantasy, to dystopian and romance. I think I’ve read all kinds. However, as much as I enjoy a good trilogy, I’ve read many many bad ones. Here, I would like to talk about some of them and let you know whether or not I enjoyed them. So, if you see a READ IT I definitely think that it’s worth your time. But, if you see a WEEP next to it, just try to avoid it.
The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie –> WEEP.
I don’t know how I finished this. I think this is proof of the amount of willpower I have when I want. When I first read the synopsis for the first book I was super excited. It caught my attention straight away and I though it was very clever. However, by the end of the first book, I wasn’t very interested. Regardless, I read the second one. I didn’t like it. At all. The only reason I read the third one was because I borrowed it from a friend and, for some reason, I felt I had the duty of reading it before returning it.
The Dark Elements Trilogy by Jennifer L. Armentrout –> READ IT.
I don’t think this trilogy gets the recognition it should. The romance is wonderful and the story incredibly interesting. Granted, it’s definitely not for everyone but I think it is great.
Hush, Hush Quartet by Becca Fitzpatrick –> WEEP.
Ok, I’m kind of cheating. This isn’t a trilogy, it’s a quartet, but I really wanted to talk about this one. Hush, Hush was recommended to me by a classmate. I had seen it before but it hadn’t caught my attention. Nonetheless, she really sold it to me so I decided to give it a try. I managed to read the first two installments and half of the third one before I gave up. The story simply didn’t capture me and I thought it was pretty similar to other books I had read.
The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancey –> WEEP.
I’M SORRY. I am not saying this book is bad. I really really liked it actually. But I never picked up the other two. I am considering rereading it and maybe continuing with the series, but, at the moment, this is my opinion and personal experience.
The Summer Trilogy by Jenny Han –> READ IT.
Most of you probably know To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. But have you read the Summer Trilogy? It’s amazing. The romance is beautiful and the story is so captivating. It’s very different from To All the Boys, but definitely worth it.
What are some of the trilogies you love? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
I felt very similar about Matched, you’re definitely not the only one who thought the rest of the series was a bit lacklustre! And I never continued on with The 5th Wave, either – I thought the first book was already pretty boring, and since everyone seemed to hate The Infinite Sea even more, I never had any interest in picking it up ๐ And I also read the Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy! I borrowed it from the library a couple of years ago and remember enjoying it, but it never made that deep of an impression on me, either.
As to my favorite trilogies – those are probably The Hunger Games, The Winner’s Curse Series, The Graceling Trilogy, Scythe… There are too many to mention all of them!!
I really want to read Scythe, but I’m worried I won’t like it as much as I hope ๐ฌ I really like the Hunger Games too! I’m currently trying to convince my mom to read them ๐
Well, you’ll never know if you like Scythe if you don’t give it a try ๐ Though I’m also notorious for “saving” books I think I’ll like for the right moment and then never reading them, so I can relate ๐
And I hope you can convince your mom! The Hunger Games are so good, and my parents still haven’t read them… But all my siblings have, so I guess at least that’s something! ๐
