Musical Shuffle Book Tag

What was I thinking when I decided to do this? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ This. Was. So. HARD!!!! True, I had a lot of fun talking about music and books (I mean, who wouldn’t?). But actually picking the books for each song was so difficult and I had to think a lot for each one πŸ˜… I really wanted to make these answers more original, but, once again, some of the books I included I talk about constantly πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I don’t think any of us are surprised about that.

I discovered this tag over at Abby’s blog Beyond The Read, so go check hers out! It was filled with musical theater (my favorite) and it was so fun to read it and listen to those songs.

The Rules

In this tag, we put the tunes on shuffle & with each song we list a character, a ship, a book β€” whatever book-related thing that the song reminds us of. Consider it their song. Let’s do it for 5-10 songs (y’all can be extra if you want. I love people who are extra) & then TAG 5-10 OF YOUR FELLOW BLOGGERS.

(This tag was created by Bex @ Becca Leighanne. The link is broken so I couldn’t share it)

🎡 Super Friend from The Flash/ Supergirl Crossover 🎡

When it comes to buddies, pal, you’re the best!

I love you more than the lightning bolt I wear on my chest.

I don’t know about you, but I love the soundtrack for The Flash and Supergirl musical episode. I think they did an amazing job and it’s one of my favorite crossovers. I don’t usually enjoy musical episodes because I think they’re a bit awkward, but they definitely exceeded my expectations with this one.

This song in particular is all about friendship and being there when your friends need you. Because of that I chose The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan. Any Percy Jackson book is all about friendship and loyalty, but considering that this is the last book of this series, all the feels are at a max. I love almost very single character and it is very fun to read from all the POV’s and how they work together to defeat the bad guy.

🎡 Hold On by the Jonas Brothers 🎡

When you love someone, and they break your heart

Don’t give up on love, have faith, restart.

Just hold on.

This album by the Jonas Brothers is one of the best ever. Hold On has been a favorite of mine for a really long time, and that rock vibe it has speaks to my soul. The lyrics are inspiring and carry a beautiful message about being strong and having faith that things will get better. The book that reminded me the most of this song was The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez. I don’t want to spoil anything, but one of the main topics is moving forward and overcoming hardships from the past. They’re both about trusting and loving despite being hurt before.

🎡 No by Meghan Trainor 🎡

Thank you in advance, I don’t wanna dance

I don’t need your hands all over me.

If I want a man, then I’mma get a man.

But it’s never my priority.

This song reminds me of empowerment and taking the reins. It is all about being independent, which I really like. Meghan Trainor did a great job in writing such a fun and powerful song. I remember that when it first came out I could not get it out of my head.

Because of all this, I chose Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes, which is the third book in the Falling Kingdoms series. I picked this novel solely because of Cleo. I think that as a character, she is so strong and knows what she wants. She doesn’t put up with any bulls**t. In this installment is when we first see hints of a romance between her and someone else, but still, she was determined and refused to settle for someone that still hadn’t earned her trust.

🎡 Bad Blood by Taylor Swift 🎡

‘Cause baby now we got bad blood.

You know it used to be mad love,

So take a look at what you’ve done,

‘Cause baby now we got bad blood.

Taylor Swift is one of the best artists ever. I’m sorry if you disagree, but no one can change my mind. Obviously Bad Blood isn’t one of my favorite songs of hers, but it is definitely a jam. If you still haven’t watched that video, please do.

The book I picked for this song is City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. I’ll try to be as a vague as possible as to avoid spoilers, but in the previous book there was a certain person that we thought was good, but turned out they weren’t… Well, in this next installment we get to see how despicable they really are, and I thought it very entertaining how pissed out Clary was about this whole ordeal.

🎡 Cometa by CNCO 🎡

DevuΓ©lveme mi luz, y arrΓ‘ncame tus palabras.

Tus promesas, tus maΓ±anas que no existirΓ‘n.

Mis lΓ‘grimas que hoy, descansan sobre mi almohada,

Te las cambio por la herida de tu ausencia.

CNCO was one of my favorite boy bands for a really long time. This song isn’t the most well known of them, but it is very calming and soothing. However, it is a heartbreak song that describes how hard it is to let go of the person you love.

Once again I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody, but the PERFECT book for this song is Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, particularly the ending. If you’ve read this, you know what I’m talking about.

🎡 Once Upon a December from Anastasia 🎡

Far away, long ago,

Glowing dim as an ember.

Things my heart used to know,

Things it yearns to remember.

Theatre and Musicals are among my favorite things in the world. I am actually very surprised that only a few songs from musicals have popped up in this tag. Once Upon a December is haunting, but very beautiful. In this story and song, Anastasia is trying to remember her childhood and where she came from. I don’t know if the events in the movie coincide with history, but I think it is amazing.

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover definitely has many parallels with this song. They’re both mysterious and deal with trying to remember your past. In all honesty, I don’t remember very much of this story, but the twist at the end is heartbreaking. I’m hoping to reread it soon and I hope you guys consider picking it up as well.

🎡 La Vie Boheme from Rent 🎡

To days of inspiration, playing hookey, making something out of nothing.

The need to express, to communicate.

To going against the grain, going insane, going mad.

La Vie Boheme is all about being different and defying imposed standards. And honestly, this song is a jam. It is fun, scandalous, and loud. Whenever I listen to it, I can’t help but sing, smile, and spread the joy.

For this song, I chose Without Merit by Colleen Hoover. This book… I can’t even describe it. It is one of the weirdest things I have ever read and my mouth was hanging open throughout most of it. Regardless, it was absolutely outstanding.

🎡 Epilogue from La La Land 🎡

** WARNING: SPOILERS ON THE VIDEO **

La La Land is probably my favorite on-screen musical. The first time I watched it I was stunned, that ending left me speechless. Whenever I listen to the Epilogue, tears spring up and everything I felt then, comes back in a wave. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, please do. The cinematography is out of this world, the music is enrapturing, and the story is so real. WARNING: don’t watch that video if you haven’t seen the movie.

Because of all this, the book that reminded me the most of this story was Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. They both have that what-could’ve-been vibe, as well as stories that simply reach your heart. There is no way that someone wasn’t rooting for these characters, as well as Mia and Sebastian. Just thinking about these endings makes me very nostalgic.

🎡 La Llave de mi Corazón (Medicine for My Soul) by Juan Luis Guerra 🎡

Le pido que, me de soluciΓ³n,

Pues tiene la llave de mi corazΓ³n.

Solo quiero que me beses como besas tu.

You know I can’t stop loving you, baby.

I LOVE this song. For those that don’t know, I am Dominican, so this song and artist are a pretty big deal in my country. Growing up, this song was one of my favorites by Juan Luis Guerra and it always makes me want to jump out of my seat and dance my heart out. I have so many beautiful, fun memories surrounding this entire album. There is a Spanish and English version. On the video I linked the Spanish one because I prefer that one, but click here if you want to listen to it in English. Also, if this isn’t enough to make you want to watch it, let me just inform you that Zoe SaldaΓ±a is one of the actresses on the video… You’re welcome.

Because this song is all about a guy doing his absolute best to win over the girl of his dreams, I chose Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I think Cricket is an amazing guy and reading about how much he loved and cared for Lola warmed by heart. This book is fun and so unique.

🎡 Something About the Sunshine from Starstruck 🎡

Everywhere’s a scene and now we’re in it.

I don’t want to paint this town alone.

When I see your smile I always feel at home.

When I was younger, Starstruck was once of the movies that I watched all of the time. It was also one of the first times I watched the typical rockstar that falls in love with the ‘normal girl’ trope. This song is super fun and reminds me of summer and being with friends. So, the book I chose is Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting. Honestly, the only reason I picked this is because it’s so cute and short. The easy-going vibes it has remind me of this song.

I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t get many musical theater songs, but I’m still pretty happy with this selection! I hope you guys life the songs if you’ve never heard of them before, and I hope you had fun reading this tag. What are some of your favorite songs or artists at the moment? Have you read any of these books?
