Hello everyone!! I hope your week is going good so far and that you’re all doing ok ☺️ If you haven’t noticed yet, I gave the blog a little makeover and I’m very happy about it. I’m still working on a few things, but it’s coming out great. Though, regardless of how good I feel about that, I am struggling with online classes. I have so many things to do and I feel like I don’t have enough time to actually get them done. Since I started blogging, this is the first time I’m writing a post on the very last minute 😬 How are you guys doing balancing everything?

Today, I bring you a new edition of me sobbing and weeping about people not liking my favorite books 😄 For some reason, I had a lot of fun doing this the first time around, and I’m actually excited to do it again. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but still, it’s hard to see people butchering something that you like so much.

Though, before we begin, I wan’t to clear up a few things.

• I’m limiting this to only 2 star reviews.
• I’m linking all of the original ones in the quotes.
• I will not be including reviews of people that DNF the book. I don’t think people should rate books that they didn’t finish.
• I will be reacting to the content and tone of the review (I will possibly weep a little as well).
• I am not trying to ‘trash’ or undermine the authors of these reviews in any way, and even if I get annoyed I will always try to be as respectful as possible.
• I’ll try to make these as spoiler free as possible, but there might be some spread throughout the post. So proceed with caution.

The book I have picked this time around is The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. This is the last book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series and has an average rating of 4.51 stars on Goodreads.

Percy didn’t grow up. That was such a disappointment. I was kind of expecting him to have to kill Bessie (i.e. his innocence – at least, symbolically) and it just didn’t happen. That stupid cow was just paddling around in his water bubble and mooing. For no reason at all.

There was no sacrifice. None. What kind of freaking hero wins without sacrificing at least something … anything?

Ok… This person really wanted someone important to die 😳 Why?? 😂😂

I mean, sure, deaths make everything more emotional and maybe help us relate a bit more. But that doesn’t mean someone has to die for the story to be good. I do understand the part about growing up and I think they make a good a point (though there is a spin off series that, in my opinion, resolves this issue). However, I don’t think it’s necessary for authors to include a Hedwig type of situation in order to symbolize a character’s growth.

I didn’t really like this review. The person that wrote it was kind of mean. Obviously, they’re allowed to not like the book, but that doesn’t mean they can insult and belittle the author and their work (which they do later on).

I appreciate when an author is not afraid to kill off characters (if it makes sense for the story, obviously) but in this case many characters died but I didn’t feel any connection with them because they were all secondary. I know this is a middle grade novel and not GoT but if you’re going to write death scenes at least do it decently.

Once again with the killing!! 😱😱 Look, I have to be honest. I am the type of person that likes when character’s are killed off. I don’t want to be a hypocrite about that. BUT, that doesn’t mean that I want or expect them to die! I think people are getting a little too used to TV shows and books killing off people… 😬

Once again, I do understand where this reviewer is coming from. When there are so many deaths, but only from secondary characters, it might feel like the author is trying to avoid a real emotional impact. It is true that the situation might’ve been more interesting or complicated if there were more serious repercussions. However, at the end of the day, this is a middle grade series, so that might have been one of the reasons that the author or publisher made the decision not to kill any main characters.

Sigh.. And another book gets a spot on my ”the final installment curse” shelf, which I actually created while reading this. The last olympian joins works such as Last Sacrifice, Allegiant and, let’s not forget The Forever Song. 

The final installment curse is a phenomenon that I just made up where the conclusion to an otherwise good series is disappointing and a lot weaker than its predecessors.

NOOOO!!! I’m sorry, but no. HOW? 🥺🥺 How could they compare it to Last Sacrifice and Allegiant?!?!

I like Vampire Academy, but Last Sacrifice was a bit underwhelming. In regards to Allegiant my opinion isn’t very valid cause I DNF’d it, but what I read was a bit disappointing as well. But still!! NO!! I’m so sad 😭

I do think there are a few moment in this book that are a bit slow, so for those that had a harder time getting into the story it probably was more difficult for them to enjoy them. Overall, I did like this review. It was honest, descriptive, and respectful. This reader gave reasons for all their likes and dislikes and it was very well written.

Also, I don’t know what I’m missing …. but I don’t ship Percy and Annabeth? They don’t have any chemistry? But I’m really the odd one out here on that. 

And again, parts of this book were very predictable too. Not everything and some parts surprised me a bit, but nothing really hooked me and I just felt kind of meh about it. I didn’t really care for any of the characters. (Apart from .. whats her Name? The dog? I liked her. )

Don’t mind me… I’ll just be here, sobbing in a corner 😢

I love Percy and Annabeth so much, and I can’t believe there are people that don’t. True, in this series the romance might be a bit rushed, so many readers were probably caught a little off guard. But that is why Heroes of Olympus us so great! Everything changes in that series and there is definitely much more character growth.

Again, a very good review: insightful and concise.

While doing this, I considered deleting everything and choosing another book. This time around it was definitely harder to read these reviews and try to react. The last time I did this, most of the ones I read were funny and kind of like a rant. But with The Last Olympian, most of the reviews on Goodreads are genuinely bad and mean 😬
